Social media is where the tech world is at, but who is more likely to be sucked into the vortex…guys or gals?  Kissmetrics revealed some stats in a recent infograph that I thought was quite interesting.

A couple of things are pretty evident from these stats…females are the Kings (or I guess we should say Queens) of social networking.  And secondly, the young are dominating the scene (63% of facebook & 68 % of Twitter audience is 44 and under).  I’m not sure what the stats are for blogging and other social media/networking platforms, but I doubt it would be too drastically different.  A few other key points that were noted by Kissmetric marketing coordinator and source author Sean Work were;

  • MySpace has the greatest gender divide, with a 64% female and 36% male membership.
  • Twitter has the largest division of wealthy users with 27% earning $75,000/year or more.
  • Facebook has the largest division of older users with 37% being 45 years or older.
  • Digg has the largest division of users with a graduate degree at 9%.
  • Stumbleupon is very popular among graphic designers. You’re 14.2 times more likely to reach a graphic designer through Stumbleupon than if you were to cast your marketing message broadly across the internet.
