Exposing Parenting Folklore

Posted: April 20, 2011 in Uncategorized

Every parent runs into a paradigm of myths, stories and urban legends about what works, what doesn’t, and why in the world of parenting your kids.  We hear stories of ‘back-in-the-day’ methods, as well as wrestling through assumptions, preconceptions, and vague attempts to understand the concepts of effective parenting, both now and then.  So what exactly are those time-tested and proven notions…and what is just parenting folklore?

During my weekly culture surfing, I found this two-part story from USA Today by Stacy Kaiser, a licensed psychotherapist, author of How to Be a Grown Up, and a frequent contributor to The Today Show and CNN.  Though her views are void of any overt Christian perspective, Kaiser offers VERY sound, practical insight and advice.

Enjoy…and let’s hear your feedback!    Part I   Part II
